The Last Jedi: Laura Dern's New Character
Not the first new character whose role has been revealed in The Last Jedi, that being the character portrayed by Benicio del Toro, we now have an update on Laura Dern. Though previously confirmed to be appearing in the upcoming movie, most rumors about Laura Dern's character were just speculation, until recently. There may be POSSIBLE SPOILERS in the content below, so be warned.
Finn has been rumored to be in the middle of an undercover mission. Kylo Ren was last seen being called for by Snoke to complete his training. The bulk of recent major Star Wars focus has been on Luke Skywalker and what secrets will be uncovered through his meeting with Rey. With all that going on - along with the identity of Supreme leader Snoke, the Knights of Ren, how Maz got Luke's lightsaber, and countless other theories about every minutia of The Force Awakens - there has been comparably less focus on the main conflict currently going on within the Star Wars. Many seem to have glanced over the war between the First order and the Resistance, and it's through this conflict that our third leading protagonist, Poe Dameron, comes into the picture.
Apparently Poe Dameron will be facing his newest rival in the form of Laura Dern's Admiral Holdo. Described as being quite unlike how one would traditionally picture an admiral,
This all seems to correlate with much earlier rumors that she would seem some bizarre cross between Star Wars and The Hunger Games. So it should be truly entertaining to see how Oscar Isaac's quippy Poe Dameron deals with this curious character Laura Dern will be portraying as he will, assumedly, be a perpetual thorn in the side of this mysterious official. While her allegiance is still uncertain, we know that she isn't immediately allied with the First Order but may in fact be a political opponent of Leia, adding some more complexity to the war than the two-sided conflict we've seen so far. However, it's still uncertain how integral her involvement in the plot of the movie will be. Admiral Holdo may ultimately ally herself with the First Order as a means to combat Leia, she may be turned as a force against the First Order, she could potentially be just an antagonistic force for this movie alone or be revealed as a surprise enemy greater than the First Order. Anything and everything is possible at this point and, until the release of the The Last Jedi trailer, she will be yet another mystery.
