Follow the Sith Lord's Rise in Marvel's Upcoming Darth Vader Comic Series
Disney's Marvel Comics is releasing a new series chronicling the first year of the greatest villain in the Star Wars Universe. Writer Charles Soule (Poe Dameron, Obi-Wan and Anankin, Lando) and artist Giuseppe Camuncoli (Amazing Spider-Man) have teamed up to fill in some blanks from Vader's history. The series will explore the Dark Lord's journey directly after Revenge of the Sith as he truly transforms into Darth Vader, more machine than man, embracing his anger, hatred, and pain.
As discussed in a previous article, Why Darth Vader Can Survive Without His Mask, Vader's self-awareness is acutely centered on his rage and pain. His ability to focus on his pain and self-loathing, feeds his power. If he loses this focus, he is weakened. If Vader allows himself to even slightly loosen his deep connection to the dark emotions that sustain him, he may also untether his link to the Dark Side.
Seen through the eyes of the Sith Lord, the graphic novels will divulge iconic moments such as the construction of Vader's red lightsaber, the aftermath of Order 66, the initiation of the Inquisitor Program, and the rise of the Empire.
Look for a review from Holofeed writer Dan Black when Star Wars: Darth Vader #1 is released on June 7, 2017.
