[Discussion] The New Characters of Star Wars: The Last Jedi - Who Is Admiral Holdo?

With the anticipation of the second movie in the third trilogy of Star Wars, comes the anticipation of new characters.  Some of the actors attached to The Last Jedi were leaked last year, but the characters they will play far exceed the excitement of the actor playing them.  The Force Awakes introduced us to Rey, Finn and Poe Dameron, played respectfully by Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaacs.

The original Star Wars introduced us to Luke, Han and Leia, played by relatively unknown actors at the time.  Rounding out that cast were veterans Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing.  The latter two’s characters met their demise in the first film and when Empire Strikes Back came along, we were introduced to some more characters.  One, of course, being Yoda.  The make it or break it puppet character voiced by Frank Oz.  What could have been a disaster, turned into a goldmine.

Now, we’re heading towards The Last Jedi, we’ve heard names like Benicio del Toro thrown around as well as Laura Dern and Kelly Marie Tran.  Benicio is said to play a shady character named D.J and Tran is playing Rose, a mechanic for the resistance.  Rounding them out is Admiral Holdo, played by Laura Dern.

Dern, best known to blockbuster audiences for her performance as paleontologist Dr Ellie Sattler in Jurassic Park, plays the elegantly dressed Admiral.

Rumors have Holdo described as a proxy for General Leia, confirming that she is a high-ranking member of the Resistance.

With her stylish pink hair she may have a touch of the Mrs Slocombe’s, but Holdo is no pussycat.

Lucasfilm story group member Pablo Hidalgo broached Holdo’s racial heritage, confirming that she is human and that her striking pink hair was to do with her cultural background.
